The US version of Vigilante, like many other games, might include localization changes, including changes to the in-game text and perhaps adjustments to suit the US audience's sensibilities. It's plausible that the core action gameplay would remain, but other aspects may have seen alteration for the American release.  Emulation allows accessibility for those outside the initial release region.
