Developed by SingleTrac and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, the original Twisted Metal (1995) on PlayStation set the stage for its successors, introducing over-the-top car combat with unique weapons and character designs.  The game's competitive multiplayer mode contributed to its lasting popularity.
