Phantasy Star II, originally released for the Sega Genesis in 1989 in Japan and later in other regions, is a role-playing game (RPG) that follows the story of a group of heroes who must prevent the return of a powerful evil force. The game's gameplay involves exploring various locations, battling enemies in turn-based combat, and solving puzzles. It is known for its innovative gameplay mechanics for its time, including the ability to switch between party members, and its detailed storyline and characters.  The game was a commercial success and is considered by many to be one of the best RPGs on the Sega Genesis.  Several fan-made translations and unofficial versions exist, offering altered experiences or language options. Sega Enterprises developed and published the original game.
