Sonic 1 - The Ring Ride 4 is likely the fourth installment in a series of ROM hacks built upon the original Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis. Continuing the emphasis on ring collection challenges and innovative level design, this ROM hack builds upon the foundations established in the previous installments. The original Sonic game (1991) from Sega provides the basis for this level of modification, which continues to focus on ring collection as the central gameplay mechanic.  More challenging levels and refined gameplay could be expected in this installment.  Information is usually available within online ROM sharing communities.
