Street Fighter II - The World Warrior, originally released in arcades, became a landmark title in gaming history. Its SNES port brought the revolutionary gameplay to a wider audience. The game established the six-button layout and introduced the world to iconic characters such as Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Guile, that remain staples in the franchise.  Gameplay consisted of head-to-head 2D fighting with a cast of eight distinct characters, each with their unique fighting styles and special moves.  The game’s enormous success in both arcades and on home consoles cemented Capcom as a major force in the fighting game genre and redefined competitive fighting games.
