Ys, originally released in Japan for the MSX2 platform in 1987, is an action role-playing game (ARPG) developed by Falcom. Known for its innovative blend of action combat and exploration, the game follows Adol Christin as he embarks on a quest to unravel the mysteries of the ancient land of Ys.  Gameplay involves fast-paced sword fighting, dungeon crawling, and puzzle solving.  The NES port, while not as visually impressive as later iterations, was crucial in bringing the game to a wider audience.  Falcom's unique approach to world-building and character design solidified the foundation of the beloved Ys series.
